Phoenix Cultural Foundation
Staying faithful to its main objectives from the time it was born (January 1996), Phoenix Cultural Foundation’s activity has followed three main coordinates: - the recapitalization and reactivation of artistic creations unworthy ignored by the communist system
- the promotion of young creative and interpretative talents that don’t fit into the commercial pattern.
- the creation of expression connections between Romanian artists and other areas around the world (mainly the assurance of national values circulation in international specific contexts).
Thus, in the first category, we can mention: the continuing of the discography series “Din Darul Magilor” (in the memory of an artist that disappeared prematurely) by editing “In memoriam Valeriu Sterian”album (containing the most representative creations of the artist that were interpreted by artists belonging to different styles and generations - from Alexandru Andries, Mircea Baniciu, Doru Stanculescu to Bambi and El Negro) or the reediting (on magnetic support accessible to the young generation CD/MC) of the creations of the venerable composer Alexandru Mandy (the one thatin the 70’s brought many hit songs for Mihaela Mihai, Sebastian Cioiu, Aurelian Andreescu).
The constant concern in the 10 years since Phoenix was founded was that of discovering, preparing and setting in the Romanian artistic field of authentic talents. Afterthe consolidation of the artists careers discovered in the first years (like Mircea Rusu, Narcisa Suciu, Paula Seling, Ada Milea), our efforts were pointed to others that, through actions specific to every creative type, we are trying to support and/or present them to the audience and the specialists. Thisis the case of artists like: Analia Selis (composer, singer) Adriana (folk-pop singer and composer), Andreea Moldovan (vocaland instrumental – classic violin and electro-pop), Cornelia Tihon (18 wind instruments interpreter).
Between the concerts - events organized, produced and promoted in Romania with international artists that had an impact on the music history of last decades like: Joan Baez, Patricia Kaas, Omara Portuondo, In-Grid, Al Bano, Nino D’Angelo, Panjabi MC, Boney M, Faithless, Megadeth,Alexander Balanescu Quartet, Jon Anderson , Buena Vista Social Club, Eliades Ochoa, Vaya con Dios, Uriah Heep, Soulfly, Mezzoforte, Kid Koala, DJ Food, Bonobo, Kronos Quartet, Amob Tobin, Septeto Nacional, Roberto Fonseca, Tori Amos, Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Harlem Globetrotters, Juanes, Jean-Michel Jarre, Tricky, Boban & Marko Markovic Orchestra, Suzanne Vega, our foundation assured the participation of its artists at important festivals in our country (“Mamaia”, “Callatis”, “Eurovision”) and outside the country (“Discovery”/ Varna,“Sunflower”/ Zrenjanin, “Golden Magnolia”/ Louisianna, “Canzoni dall mondo “ - Salerno) – and almost every time our artists have won the trophies – Silvia Stefanescu, Angel, Mihai Traistariu, Funny, Andreea Moldovan, Helenna.
We also did a series of tours with representative artists (Paula Seling and Iris – Canada and SUA – November 2003, or Angel , Narcisa Suciu, and Ro-Mania inCanada – February 2004, “Hai, acasa! (Come home) Caravan with Narcisa Suciu, Cornelia Tihon, Elena Merisoreanu in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Italy - may 2005) or addressed to European audience (like Paula Seling’s concerts in Great Britain – February 2002 or Norway– march 2003, “Romanians in Europe” tour – sponsored by Western Union – with Narcisa Suciu & Gasca de Acasa, Paula Seling & 7th Heaven,Victor Socaciu and Atac in Italy, Austria, Germany, Great Britain and Sweden – June 2004) or the participation to inter-ethnical Festival “Belleville” (Torino) in 10 of July 2005 with Narcisa Suciu & Gasca de Acasa, K1 & Ro-Mania along with Victor Papazov &Wedding Orchestra and Emil Kusturitza & No Smoking and at Stara Zagora (October2005 ) with Narcisa Suciu, Cornelia Tihon, and Gojira & Kosak.
Also, our activity was pointed towards the collaboration with major companies in Romania, collaboration that consisted in booking the artist that played at private parties for these companies. In this category we can remember: Vodafone (Eliades Ochoa), Omnilogic (NigelKennedy), Franke (AlBano & PaulaSeling), Romantica Tv (Toto Cutugno) etc.
Concomitantly, Phoenix Cultural Foundation extended it’s activity towards the collaboration with local city halls by booking romanian and international artists to play at special occasions organized by the city hall such as new years or the town days.
