Continuing the tradition of music concerts from Cuba by Buena Vista Social Club ™, Phoenix Cultural Foundation presents for the second time to the Romanian audience the great "sonero" Eliades Ochoa, after a series of sold-out concerts in 2007 in Bucharest, Cluj and Timisoara.
He comes from an area near Santiago de Cuba and his musical roots are in "guajira (Cuban folk music).The inclination to wear black clothes and cowboy hat made some critics call him "Johnny Cash from Cuba".
Eliades Ochoa is the youngest of those who created the album Buena Vista Social Club in 1997. He contributed to the Buena Vista Social Club with his unique style of playing the guitar and his voice in songs like El Cuarto de Tula, Chan Chan and El Carretero. He participated in all major tours of the world super-stars Cuban, along with Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo, Ruben Gonzalez, Cachaito Lopez and Omara Portuondo.
In a context among others characterized by the inflation of Cuban musical projects that justifies it's credibility by using the name Buena Vista neighborhood of Havana, Eliades Ochoa is the only original musician to belong Buena Vista Social Club brand who comes to play in Bucharest this year.
Eliades Ochoa is considered one of the most important Cuban musicians of all time, a remarkable keeper of traditional Cuban music. In the current tour he is accompanied by his band, Grupo Patria.
