1998: year memorable Buena Vista Social Club concert at Carnegie Hall in New York 2010: After 12 years, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club is again on tour around the world to share the magic of music in Cuba.
In the 90s, Buena Vista Social Club ®, along with Ry Cooder and Wim Wenders brought back to life a forgotten repertoire of styles (son, bolero, danzón and guajiro) which are now famous worldwide. Today, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club ® continues this tradition, and includes new names, such as the incredible singer Carlos Calunga besides veterans like trumpeter Guajiro Mirabal and virtuoso lute Barbarito Torres. Along with Aguaje Ramos and Manuel Galban, they collaborated on many tours and recording under the name "Buena Vista Social Club Presents" over the past 12 years.
Current component includes 13 musicians from Havana, who have already had a huge success last year in the UK with a tour of 22 shows sold-out. Band mates since the beginning of Eliades Ochoa, Ruben Gonzalez and Cachaito Lopez current components of the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club ® did accompany in the studio but also on scenes from Japan to South America and Europe and the United States to Australia already the legendary names such as Ibrahim Ferrer, Omara Portuondo and Compay Segundo.
Phoenix Cultural Foundation remains consistent in promoting in Romania true and recognized values of Cuban music, in a context where several groups of Cuban musicians who recently performed in Bucharest and acted more or less explicitly, but often unworthy,like a part to the project Buena Vista Social Club ®. In the last 5 years, Phoenix Cultural Foundation repeatedly promoted in Romania Cuban artists warrant by the Buena Vista Social Club ® brand, such as Omara Portuondo, Eliades Ochoa, Roberto Fonseca, Guajiro Mirabal, Manuel Cachaito Lopez or Manuel Galban. Unquestionable value of such legendary musicians is confirmed over time and numerous Grammy nominations, and exuberant reviews in prestigious publications as The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The New York Times, Le Monde or El Pais.
After the sold out show in 2006, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club ® return to Bucharest, in one of more than 30 concerts already confirmed worldwide. The concert will take place on May 24, at thw Palace Hall, from 20:00.
